This course is designed for healthcare organizations and individual primary care physicians, specialty physicians, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, and certified clinical nurse specialists who are providing preventive health visits.

What course content will be covered?

Value-Based Care: Making The Most of the Affordable Care Act is designed to help you:

  • Increase patient engagement
  • Accurately execute and document preventive visits
  • Optimize reimbursement or relative value units (RVU) credits

This online course consists of five training modules covering evidence-based strategies to increase patient engagement, Center for Medicare Services (CMS) preventive health visit types with required tasks, resources to easily implement accurate documentation and make personalized preventive health recommendations, and an opportunity to test your knowledge.

Are there any text books or other materials required for this course?

The entire training takes place online. There are no required textbooks or other materials.

What are the minimum hardware/software requirements to access the online training?

To access and complete the online training modules the minimum system requirements are as follows:

  • 0.5 Mbps (recommended 1+ Mbps), wired connection or Wi-Fi connection

  • Adobe Acrobat Reader

  • 2.33GHz or faster x86-compatible processor, or Intel® AtomTM 1.6GHz or faster processor for netbooks
  • Microsoft® Windows® XP (32 bit), Windows Server 2008 (32 bit), Windows Vista® (32 bit), Windows 7 (32 bit and 64 bit), Windows 8 (32 bit and 64 bit), or Windows Server 2012 (64 bit)
  • Internet Explorer 8.0 or later, Mozilla Firefox 17 or later, Google Chrome, or Opera 11
  • 512MB of RAM (1GB of RAM recommended for netbooks); 128MB of graphics memory

If you are using a Google device such as a Chromebook the device will display the course PDF documents with its internal software. Adobe Acrobat need not be installed on the system.

Is there homework?

No homework is required. As part of the online training modules, you will be provided with additional online resources which you can access as needed. These are supplemental resources that you may find beneficial, but they are not required for course completion.

Are continuing education credits available?

Yes. The course is approved for a maximum of 2 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit(s)™ and 2 ANCC Contact Hours.In support of improving patient care, Duke University Health System Clinical Education & Professional Development is accredited by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), and the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), to provide continuing education for the health care team.

Is there an examination?

Yes. In order to receive Joint Accreditation continuing education credits an examination at the end of the course is required. In order to receive credit for the course you must pass the examination with 80% of the answers correct. You may take the examination as many times as needed in order to pass.

What kind of official documentation will I receive at the completion of the training?

After completing the course you will receive a downloadable electronic certificate showing the Joint Accreditation continuing education credits earned for the course.

The course registration fee is $197.
