Integrative Health Coach Professional Training
Certification Course
Mastery in the field of integrative health coaching comes with practice, skill development, and personal supervision. The Certification Course is open to those who have completed the Foundation Course. It is designed to deepen your understanding and application of the core skills and to offer you an excellent forum to achieve an expanded professional level of competence in the field. This distance learning course is delivered via web and teleconferencing. Those who complete all requirements for the Certification Course are certified as integrative health coaches by Duke Integrative Medicine.
Course components
- Individual supervision and support for 9 sessions by our senior integrative health coaches
- Regular telephonic group learning sessions with coaching demonstrations and modeling of skills
- Full access and use of the Integrative Health Coaching website and class interface
Additional requirements for graduation from the Certification Course include:
- Documentation of 100 hours of coaching* (agreements and signed consent forms for a minimum of 4 coaching clients must be obtained prior to the start of the course; contact the program coordinator for the appropriate forms)
- Successful completion of both an oral and a written examination
*Some participants will require more time to complete their 100 coaching hours in order to qualify to take the oral examination. The oral examination may be taken up to a full year from the start of the course in order to meet the needs and schedules of those in the training. In addition to the required course components listed above, you may choose to complete one or both of the following optional components to bolster your development as an integrative health coach. We encourage you to consider these opportunities and decide if they would be beneficial to supplement your learning during the Certification Course. Completing personal coaching sessions with a certified integrative health coach provides the opportunity to experience coaching from the client's perspective. Should you choose to complete personal coaching sessions, there is a growing list of certified coaches from which you can select. The list of integrative health coaches certified through Duke Integrative Medicine is available on this webpage.
Completing a Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) course or another mindfulness training program provides you with an opportunity to enhance your ability to be deeply present during coaching with clients. Should you choose to complete an MBSR course there are many educational providers from which you can select, including Duke Integrative Medicine. If you wish to be able to teach mindfulness skills through a professional role, consider taking a course such as Mindfulness Training for Professionals, which is offered at Duke Integrative Medicine. If you wish to be able to teach MBSR courses, please refer to the University of Massachusetts Center for Mindfulness website for information on available training.
