Can’t come to a class every week? Mindfulness-based stress reduction, now from your own home!

Duke Integrative Medicine is expanding its opportunities to pass on one of its core principles- the practice of mindfulness.

Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) is a method of using meditation and yoga to cultivate awareness and reduce stress. It is based on the ancient practice of mindfulness, which is about waking up, being fully alive, and being present for the richness of each moment of our lives. Within this awakening, we gain access to our deepest inner resources for living, healing, and coping with stress.

Previously only available in an on-site class environment in the Raleigh-Durham area of North Carolina, Duke Integrative Medicine’s MBSR program presents, The Mindful Way to Reduce Stress: A Home Study Program, where participants “meet” with their instructor and class once a week via telephone conference, from wherever they may be.

While there is no substitute for the experience that the live, in-person MBSR program has to offer, we understand the busy and varied lives our clients lead. This program is designed to deliver those same teachings and opportunity for group learning to those who are unable to visit our facility on a weekly basis, for reasons of scheduling difficulties, distance, or physical limitations.

Are you a Duke IM Gold or Platinum member? If you have not already participated in a program during your membership year, you are eligible to enroll in this program for free. Just fill out a registration form and send it in!

Program Content

  • The Home Study Program consists of 8 weekly call-in sessions lasting 1.5 hours each. Each week focusing on a facet of mindfulness, and practicing mindfulness techniques as a group.
  • Support materials, including a program workbook, and guided meditations and yoga instructions on CD are included with the registration fee. These materials are mailed to you upon your registration and payment, and will arrive prior to the first call-in session, along with orientation information and specifics for call-in procedure and etiquette.
  • The program is led by one of our experienced and trained MBSR instructors.
  • As with other MBSR offerings, a commitment of 45-60 minutes of daily practice is expected of each participant during the course of the program.

 

Upon completion of the Foundations program, you are invited to attend Duke Integrative Medicine's other MBSR-centered offerings and classes such as the Graduate Classes and our Continuation Classes.
